In the first ‘Riga bird battle’ wins ‘Himantopus himantopus’

In the birdwatching competition ‘Riga bird battle 2015’ ("Rigas putnu cina 2015") organised by Latvian Ornithological Society (LOB) Riga local groups won the team 'Himantopus himantopus' with the observed 68 species and 14 additional points gained on gender determination.

Seven teams participated in the competition, which together observed 85 bird species of which 18 species were observed and also recorded both sexes. Participants acknowledged that the additional interest and excitement granted directly to the opportunity to test their abilities and sex subspecies determination.


Involve of LOB local groups in seminar was held within the project project "LOB: for birds and people from Latvias regions to the world", financed by Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway. 95% of the project is financed by the European Union through the EEA Financial Mechanism - program NGO Activity Support Measure (2009-2014), but 5% - from Latvia State budget.
